Orpington resident on expedition to the Northern Pole of Inacessibility

Orpington resident Jhy Turley is part of a team currently planning an expedition to an area of the Arctic known as the Northern Pole of Inaccessibility - the Last World First to be claimed in the Polar Regions. Jhy is part of the Ice Warrior LASTPOLE expedition, which not only is an adventure to an unreached place, but also an opportunity to  collecting vital environmental data that will be used by organisations such as Nasa and the Met Office. The team will face a journey of over 800 miles (1200 km) across treacherous sea-ice, in one of the most inhospitable environments on Earth.

The expedition, which is due to set off next February, will use equipment such as the QAJAQ, a specially designed pulk/kayak that the team will be pulling on expedition (pictured with Jhy)

Jo said ‘I wish Jhy and the Ice Warrior team all the best in their expedition in February. This expedition is not only a huge physical feat, but an important opportunity to collect environmental data to help the fight against climate change.’
