Jo co-hosted a China Business Seminar at the Orpington Campus of Bromley College earlier today, with the China Britain Business Council and the EU SME Centre.
The China-Britain Business Council is a founding partner of the EU SME Centre in Beijing, which has recently launched a new business tool, 'Are you ready for China?'. This provides a step-by-step introduction to the Chinese business environment, allowing SMEs to gauge their preparedness for doing business there. The event will include presentations on the areas of opportunity for UK companies in China; the importance of demographic change in China; the growing significance of the Chinese consumer and how to identify business partners in China. There will be an opportunity for one-to-one consultations after lunch with advisers from the CBBC and the EU SME Centre.
In his introductory speech, Jo said: 'As the relationship between our economies grows, Britain can be a springboard for China into European markets. But we must work to make that happen and that's why I am delighted that the China Britain Business Council has chosen Orpington as that springboard. Capitalizing on a country that will have the largest economy by the end of the decade is key to the UK's economic recovery and I'm sure that the companies represented here will take full advantage of the Government's strong support for British exporters and bring jobs and prosperity back home."
