On Friday afternoon, Jo Johnson, the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Orpington, cut the ribbon at the Oasis Community Hub, a new community project in St Mary Cray.
The project is being led by St Mary Cray Primary Academy (SMCPA), with funding from organisations including the National Lottery and Children in Need, and will provide access to local services and support for families across the whole community.
The Oasis, which is situated in the Duke Youth Centre, will offer a wide range of fun activities for children from birth to 5 years old, alongside practical programmes and a drop-in advisory service for adults.
At the opening ceremony, the Headmaster of SMCPA, Adam Lowing, and Jo addressed the assembled guests. Following speeches, Jo was given a tour of the facility and spoke with the project’s leaders about the activities, advice and support that will be offered.
Jo said: ‘It was great to open the Oasis Community Hub, which is an excellent facility that will help to build strong links across the whole community in St Mary Cray.
It is fantastic to see the Duke being put to such good use by the impressive team at St Mary Cray Primary Academy. Great credit must go to all those who have continuously promoted their vision for the centre.’
