Earlier this summer, Jo paid a visit to Locksbottom Sainsbury’s to meet the team and learn about the celebration of the company’s 150th Birthday.
Store manager Mijanur Rahman greeted Jo and updated him on their 150 Days of Volunteering scheme. This scheme was set up to mark the 150th anniversary of the company’s founding, as well as pay back to the local community.
For 150 days, their employees can volunteer, during paid work-time, in support of their own chosen local causes within Orpington.
Jo was also pleased to receive a tour around the newly renovated branch which will offer customers a range of services, such as ordering and collecting packages from Argos. Jo spoke to the team members working at the new Argos stand and was glad to hear about how the new changes are benefitting customers and transforming the nature of what local supermarkets do.
Jo particularly appreciated talking to some of the branch’s employees, including Doris, a 90-year-old checkout assistant, who has enjoyed working at the store now for a number of years.
