Earlier this month I visited The Chelsfield (temporarily renamed ‘The Helsfield’ for Halloween!) to discuss proposed redevelopment plans for the pub.
There was a great strength of feeling on the matter, with local residents and patrons expressing their concerns about the development. Many of the concerns focussed on the loss of the 1930s facade and the cherished interior of the pub, as well as the impact of a new Tesco Extra on stores in the parade. As planning is a matter for the local council, I have passed these concerns on to the three excellent ward councillors, Cllr Mike Botting, Cllr Samaris Huntington-Thresher and Cllr Angela Page.
I will continue to monitor developments and stay in close contact with local residents and councillors.
