The former Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, set out a £1 million grant in the 2015 Budget to secure the future of St George's RAF Chapel of Remembrance in Biggin Hill.
I am delighted that £1 million was set aside to ensure the RAF Biggin Hill Memorial Chapel is put on a sustainable footing. This is a triumph for the Biggin Hill Residents Association and everyone who campaigned to safeguard the Chapel for future generations.
I directly raised concerns about the Chapel with the former Prime Minister David Cameron in Downing Street during the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, after the Ministry of Defence considered the withdrawal of funding early in January 2015. I worked with all arms of Government to ensure that the future of St George's Chapel was secured.
I am now in close contact with Councillor Julian Benington and other representatives of the Biggin Hill Memorial Museum Trust as work goes on to secure the future of the Chapel.
