Securing the provision of strong local health services in Orpington for the long term remains my number one priority.
The successful takeover of the Princess Royal University Hospital and the decision to save Orpington Hospital by King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust was a magnificent victory for local campaigners and great news for patients, NHS staff and residents.
King's is an outstanding NHS Foundation Trust and has made huge progress in turning around the Princess Royal University Hospital.
The nurse-to-patient ratio has increased significantly, with the recruitment of 260 new nurses. The PRUH stroke unit has moved from unaccredited status to become one of the top 20 units in the country, and King's has turned Orpington Hospital into one of the largest orthopaedic centres in London, with outstanding patient outcomes, a Friends and Family score of 100% and a five-star rating on NHS Choices.
Progress on the Orpington Health and Wellbeing Centre is ongoing and I will post updates on further developments here.
